Malaysia, Part 5
February - March 2008

Monday, March 3rd

After breakfast we took a stroll over to the sister resort next door.

Very nicely landscaped with wooden deckchairs and even some Penang trishaws dotted about.

The rest of the day we spent at our resort looking around the gardens...

...lazing by the pool...

...and enjoying the food and mocktails.

We did make a brief foray across the street to the shops and bought a couple of batik sun dresses for Hazel.

I bought a tin of the lovely sambal ikan bilis (tiny anchovies in sauce) that I have been enjoying for breakfast on top of nasi lemak (basmati-style rice steamed with spices such as cardamom), as well as some nasi goreng (fried rice) seasoning packets.

Tuesday, March 4th

On Tuesday we had a last leisurely breakfast at Golden Sands and then got packed up ready for our flight to Langkawi. Firefly was a fine little airline and only slightly worrying that the prayer room was right next to the gate.

Pelangi Beach Resort is only a few minutes taxi ride from the airport. We checked in and were taken by golf cart to our kampung-style accommodation.

We checked out the beach and the pools, of course!

All the buildings are made of and decorated in dark-stained wood.

David is checking email in the main lounge near reception. We haven't been able to log on as frequently now we're in Langkawi.

Last night there was a live band which Hazel enjoyed listening to. Afterwards we went to the poolside bar to have pizza (black olives and mushrooms, my favourite) and salad. Hazel spotted lots of the little chit-chat lizards on the walls.
