May 13th. The morning after a day of heavy rain, nearly flodding the trail in Raymond Brook Marsh.

 

 

Red Chokeberry (Photinia pyrifolia).

 

 

Common Fleabane (Erigeron philadelphicus).

 

 

Snakes everywhere; their usual dens probably submerged.

 

 

The first orchid of the year. Pink Lady's-slipper (Cypripedium acaule).

 

 

 

 

 

Eastern tent caterpillars about half grown.

 

 

Morrow's Honeysuckle (Lonicera morrowii) - an invasive plant.

 

 

Nodding Trillium (Trillium cernuum).

May 22nd. A mayfly hatch near the trail head on Route 85.

 

 

May 23rd. A flock of cedar waxwings near the lumber yard.
